Dear Parents/Guardians:


The start of the 2017 – 2018 school year here at Union Springs Elementary School is off to a GREAT start all because of you and your support. The month of September is recognized as National Attendance Awareness Month. Administration is asking parents to ensure their child(ren) are in class by 8:00 am and to allow them to remain in school the entire school day and not check out unless there is an emergency.


It’s homecoming time. Bullock County High School will celebrate Homecoming 2017 during the week of October 2 – 6, 2017. It has been a tradition that Union Springs Elementary School also participates in this celebration. We are planning to have the Coronation on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in the Cafeteria at 6:00 pm. In order to make Homecoming 2017 a success at Union Springs Elementary School, students are asked to participate in the Popcorn Fundraiser. The top winners of the Popcorn Fundraiser will represent Union Springs Elementary School in the Coronation and the Homecoming Parade. Please note the following criteria for Mr. and Miss Union Springs Elementary School:


ü  The top male seller for the fundraiser will be Mr. USES

ü  The top female seller for the fundraiser will be Miss USES

ü  Mr. and Miss. USES will be responsible for their own acceptance speech for Coronation and attire

o   Speeches MUST be delivered from memory

ü  The next two (2) top male and female sellers for the fundraiser will be Attendants to Mr. and Miss USES

ü  The next eight (8) highest male sellers for the fundraiser will be a part of the Royal Court

ü  The next eight (8) highest female sellers for the fundraiser will be a part of the Royal Court

ü  Winning participants must submit a participant permission form after the Court has been announced

ü  Mr. and Miss Union Springs Elementary and Royal Court must be able to attend scheduled practices from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm on announced afternoons

ü  Mr. and Miss Union Springs Elementary and Attendants must be able to ride the float in the Homecoming Parade


If you and your child are planning to participate in the Popcorn Fundraiser, please note the following:


·       Orders may be taken between the dates of Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, September 8, 2017.

o   NO orders will be accepted after Friday, September 8, 2017

·       As orders are received and money is collected from patrons, please turn money in to Mrs. Wheeler.

o   Please wait for your receipt

·       Union Springs Elementary School will order the Popcorn on Monday, September 11, 2017

o   Only paid orders will be filled

·       Orders will be delivered the first week of October


School T-shirts…To help make this Homecoming 2017 special for our children annual school t-shirts will go on sale starting Monday, August 28, 2017 until Monday, September 11, 2017. Students and parents may purchase a USES school t-shirt through their child’s homeroom teacher. These t-shirts maybe worn as part of students uniform. Order forms and details will be sent home shortly. NO t-shirt orders will be taken after Monday, September 11, 2017.


Union Springs Elementary School’s Faculty and Staff are excited about Homecoming 2017. To continue to make this event successful, we need your help and support with the Popcorn Fundraiser.


On Friday, August 18, 2017, all Union Springs Elementary School students received a copy of the Student/Parent Handbook 2017 - 2018. Please take time and read through these documents. Please tear out, sign, and return to your child’s homeroom teacher pages 16 – 20 from the Student/Parent Handbook 2017 – 2018. Please turn in by Friday, August 25, 2017.


PTO/Progress Reports…On Thursday, September 7, 2017, students will receive their progress reports. Teachers will be available for parental conferences at 4:00 pm and the first PTO meeting will be at 5:00 pm in the cafeteria. If you are interested in viewing your child’s grades, attendances, and discipline, via Internet access, please see Dr. Huffman, Guidance Counselor, for your INOW user ID and password anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you are in need of a parental conference, you may email the teacher, contact Ms. Ivey, Assistant Principal, or Mr. Lowe, Principal.


ACT Aspire scores from May 2017 have been delivered. Within the next few weeks parents of 4th grade students will receive a detailed summary and breakdown of your child’s performance.


Fall Pictures…On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Sly Photography will be taking school pictures for all Union Springs Elementary School students, faculty, and staff. For safety issues, all students and personnel will take a photo. A $1.00 sitting fee will be charged and can be paid when the pictures are taken on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Students may wear their favorite top with uniform bottoms. All photos taken will be single shot photos. When proofs are returned, parents/guardians wishing to purchase a picture package may turn the money in to their child’s homeroom teacher.
